Management and Restoration of
Water Resources -
Alwar, Rajasthan
"This booklet has been developed by the Gender, Water and Climate Change
(GWCC) Department of the Center for Social Research in partnership with the
German Embassy in India for Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and Panchayati Raj women
to empower women. Information is given about the water cycle and various water
conservation methods.
Water cycle is a cyclical process of changing one state of water present on the
earth into another and moving from one water source to another. This natural
hydrological cycle reflects the constantly changing state of water on the Earth's
surface and atmosphere. This cycle explains how water evaporates from the Earth's
surface, slowly rises into the atmosphere, condenses to form clouds and then falls
back to the surface (sea, river, ocean) as rain, snow or hail.
Figure - Rainwater Harvesting
The process of collecting water after rainfall for use in productive purposes is called
rainwater harvesting. In other words, the process of collecting the rainwater falling
on your roof and converting it into pure water is called rainwater harvesting.
