Director's Message

DR RANJANA KUMARI
For nearly four-decade, the Center for Social Research has been operating at the local, national and regional levels in an effort to guarantee the rights of women & girls, further deepening the understanding of social issues from the gender perspective.

Our Vision is to build the capacities of individuals, communities, and institutions for creating a humane, equitable, and gender-just society.

During this quarter, under our COVID-19 Relief, Response & Recovery we have been providing relief services to Women and Children, youth, Frontline Healthcare Workers, and other Community Members. We have conducted several capacity-building pieces of training on gender sensitization and the prevention of sexual harassment at the workplace. To spread awareness and reduce the spread of Covid-19, we have introduced "Training of Trainers" sessions for the Youth champions in Delhi and Haryana.

We believe that learning should not stop even during these uncertain times therefore we continued our Skill Department program in the form of online sessions. We have successfully trained 100 girls and boys in this quarter. We are happy to share that 60-70% of trainees have been placed successfully.

CSR strives towards creating a violence-free environment for everyone. CSR’s Crisis Intervention team is the nodal agency of the National Commission for Women (NCW) in providing E-counselling to survivors of gender-based violence. We have an established network of 30 NGOs to exchange information and provide survivors and victims' a comprehensive range of services.

There is no vaccine for the climate crisis but hope. Our Gender, Water & Climate Change Team's goal is to promote gender-effective and sustainable approaches to combating climate change. However, due to lack of appropriate digital support to connect with the impacted population and lockdowns throughout India did create technical and logistical problems. Yet, the department has effectively shifted its work online and completed the projects with the assistance of local members including online meetings at both state and national levels.

The Covid-19 pandemic pushed children to use multiple digital technologies consistently. The use of online spaces has been accelerated, which has further opened up the possibility of all kinds of online safety issues. CSR, in collaboration with Facebook, conducted Online Safety trainings to ensure that students learn and understand the power of being positive online, how to identify and combat dangerous situations, digital wellness, the importance of reaching out, how to spot fake news, and understand the damage it can do and many more skills and tools essential to keeping safe.

For our project with Twitter - Digital Citizenship & Civic Participation for Gender Equality, we have been conducting online webinars with college students to make them understand digital citizenship & how to make online spaces more safe & inclusive.

Our Social media team is highly focused on bringing important issues to the forefront through a diverse set of content and campaigns. For instance, we organize regular #TweetChats on contemporary issues, disseminate relevant updates regarding Covid-19 & promote vaccine importance busting some myths regarding vaccination.

We understand how a person’s mental well-being is as important as their physical well-being and since the month of May was Mental Health Awareness Month, we at the Centre for Social Research focused on children’s mental health and organised #TweetChat on - Impact of Positive Conversations on Mental Health of Children". Hope to get your feedback on the newsletter. As always, we thank you for your support.

Women Skill Development Program

The Centre for Social Research continued with its Skill Department program during these unprecedented times, we revamped our training program and moved our traditional classroom training to online sessions to keep the trainees safe and healthy at home. Given the spread of the COVID-19, education all across has been disrupted and we believe that learning should not stop even during these uncertain times. Individuals can attain better learning experiences through our online Co-Ed Office Assistant Training Program under the Skill India Initiative.

The team is providing the trainees access to expert faculty, online learning resources, E-modules and best practices. We understand virtual learning is new therefore we provide assistance to our trainees through out our weekly training sessions. We encourage everyone to utilize this time productively by learning new skills. We have successfully trained approx. 94 girls and boys until this quarter, 60-70% trainees have been placed successfully.

It aims to comprehend a holistic approach on how women throughout the country, most importantly in rural regions, who are largely accountable for the managementof water in their respective households and they are adversely impacted by climate change and its resulting implications on the water supply.

Due to a lack of appropriate digital support to connect with the impacted population, the COVID-19 epidemic and continued following lockdowns throughout India created technical and logistical problems.
