By hosting a walk-a-thon to raise awareness about women's
leadership in politics and administration, the Centre for
Social Research (CSR India) aims to highlight the importance
of women's participation in these spheres and to encourage
more women to take up leadership positions. The walk-a-
thon also serves as a platform to engage with the community
and promote dialogue and action towards gender equality
and women's empowerment.
As we all know India is going for an election next year 2024,
CSR wants to use this opportunity to raise awareness about
the importance of women's participation in politics and to
mobilize support for the women's reservation bill. CSR is also
collaborating with other organizations like Women Power
Connect, Breakthrough, CEHRO, CEQUIN, PowHER etc and
being supported by individuals like Ms. Sharmishta
Mukherjee, Mr Suresh Prabhu, Ms. Kanimozhi Karunanidhi,
Mr. Prabhat Jha, Dr. Anjali Mehta, who share their vision of
gender equality and women's empowerment.
The women's reservation bill proposes to reserve 33% of all
seats in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian
parliament, and in all state legislative assemblies for women.
The bill aims to address the underrepresentation of women
in politics and to ensure that women have a greater say in
decision-making at all levels of governance.
In spite of repeated promises by various political parties, the
Women's Reservation Bill has been pending for over two
decades due to various political and social factors.
Despite the challenges, civil society organizations, including
CSR, continue to lobby for the passage of the Women's
Reservation Bill and to push for greater representation of
women in politics and administration. They believe that
increasing women's representation in these spheres is
crucial for achieving gender equality and for ensuring that
women's voices are heard and their rights are protected.
