This newsletter for the first quarter of the year highlights the
achievements and ongoing efforts of the Centre for Social Research in
promoting gender equality and empowering women. It also
emphasizes the importance of collaboration and community
involvement in achieving these goals. By highlighting specific
programs and initiatives, we provide concrete examples of the impact
of CSR's work.
It is with great pride and enthusiasm that we celebrate 40 years of the
Centre for Social Research (CSR) empowering women and creating a
better, more inclusive world for all. Our commitment to gender equality
and the empowerment of women has been steadfast since our
inception, and it is gratifying to see the positive impact of our efforts.
We have conducted in-depth research on gender mainstreaming in the
foreign policy of India and emphasized the need for adopting a
feminist foreign policy. Our research indicates that this approach is not
only a moral obligation but also an effective strategy for promoting
peace, security, and global prosperity.
We are proud to announce the successful completion of our 11th
batch of the Office Assistant Skill Development Program, with support
from The Asia Foundation. The program focuses on imparting
theoretical training and enhancing the personality, English speaking,
and basic computer learning of girl students, and engaging them with
employability. We have trained 1900 trainees in the last 3 years and are
regularly enrolling trainees for upcoming batches.

Digital Literacy Program
Gender Mainstreaming
We are excited to start a new program on Digital Literacy with the support of the Orange Foundation. Our aim
is to train 100 women trainees under the digital literacy module. Digital literacy is the key to living a skillful
life, and we want to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential. The trainees will be
certified under the NIELIT digital literacy program.
We are implementing Phase-4 of the program “Sports for Empowering Girls in 2 Gender-Critical Districts of
Delhi NCR region, Ghaziabad & Faridabad," with support from the Australian High Commission, New Delhi.
We will be organizing a Parents Teacher mobilization event in April 2023 to inspire parents to support their
daughters' involvement in athletics and make them aware of the significance of proper nutrition for girl
athletes.
At CSR, we have the commitment to ensure a violence-free society for women and girls. We are a nodal
agency in the panel of the National Commission for Women (NCW) and External Members of various Internal
Committees constituted under the POSH Act. We have resolved around three domestic violence cases and
four sexual harassment cases from different stakeholders.
Lastly, we have been diligently working with the local communities of Rajasthan on water conservation and
climate change through our Gender, Water, and Climate Change department, in collaboration with Hanns-
Seidel Stiftung, India, and The German Embassy.
We invite everyone to become a part of our celebration and collaborate/participate by writing to us at:
communications@csrindia.org. Let's work together to create a future where gender equality is not just an
ideal, but a reality for all.
We have conducted in-depth qualitative research on the Gender mainstreaming of Indian
Foreign Policy. Adopting a feminist foreign policy is more than a moral obligation; it is also an
effective strategy for promoting peace, security, and global prosperity. Gender-based violence
and discrimination are pervasive and debilitating issues that affect individuals, communities,
and entire countries. By prioritizing gender equality and the empowerment of women in
foreign policy decision-making and implementation, we can address the root causes of these
issues and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Gender
Mainstreaming
In The
Foreign Policy
Of India
A feminist foreign policy approach involves
examining the impacts of foreign policy decisions
on different genders and promoting the
participation of women in peace and security
processes. By doing so, decision-makers can
create more inclusive and effective policies that
benefit everyone. Moreover, integrating gender
perspectives throughout foreign policy processes
can ensure responsiveness to the needs and
concerns of diverse populations.
We appeal to G20 Countries to join this growing
movement. If G20 countries can demonstrate their
commitment to adopting Feminist Foreign Policy
and help in creating a more equitable and just
world. Together we can create a future where
gender equality is not just an ideal, but a reality
for all.

Digital Literacy Program
The most important skill in the world of the twenty-first century is digital literacy. The next generation of
technologists, as well as everyday people, need to be adequately digitally educated. In this day and age, digital
literacy is the new life skill. The entire civilization is becoming surrounded by the digital world. Only if we are all
technologically educated will we be able to live calm and pleasant lives in this digital age. Only individuals with
digital literacy are eligible for the majority of work prospects.
So keeping all the points in mind we are
starting a new program on Digital Literacy
with the support of Orange Foundation.
Where we will be training 100 women
trainees under the digital literacy module.

By hosting a walk-a-thon to raise awareness about women's
leadership in politics and administration, the Centre for
Social Research (CSR India) aims to highlight the importance
of women's participation in these spheres and to encourage
more women to take up leadership positions. The walk-a-
thon also serves as a platform to engage with the community
and promote dialogue and action towards gender equality
and women's empowerment.
As we all know India is going for an election next year 2024,
CSR wants to use this opportunity to raise awareness about
the importance of women's participation in politics and to
mobilize support for the women's reservation bill. CSR is also
collaborating with other organizations like Women Power
Connect, Breakthrough, CEHRO, CEQUIN, PowHER etc and
being supported by individuals like Ms. Sharmishta
Mukherjee, Mr Suresh Prabhu, Ms. Kanimozhi Karunanidhi,
Mr. Prabhat Jha, Dr. Anjali Mehta, who share their vision of
gender equality and women's empowerment.
The women's reservation bill proposes to reserve 33% of all
seats in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian
parliament, and in all state legislative assemblies for women.
The bill aims to address the underrepresentation of women
in politics and to ensure that women have a greater say in
decision-making at all levels of governance.
In spite of repeated promises by various political parties, the
Women's Reservation Bill has been pending for over two
decades due to various political and social factors.
Despite the challenges, civil society organizations, including
CSR, continue to lobby for the passage of the Women's
Reservation Bill and to push for greater representation of
women in politics and administration. They believe that
increasing women's representation in these spheres is
crucial for achieving gender equality and for ensuring that
women's voices are heard and their rights are protected.
