We
have completed two decades of a meaningful and satisfying journey
and celebrated and shared these glorious moments with our
community women who came from all over India at Delhi Haat from
26th-28th September. The Hon’ble Chief Minster of Delhi Smt.
Sheila Dixit inaugurated the event. Addressing the gathering she
said that continuous efforts are needed to get complete
empowerment of women. Ms. Chandni Joshi, Representative of UNIFEM,
Dr. Veena Jha from UNCTAD and Ms. Geeta Hariharan, a renowned
writer were also present on this occasion. Ms. Hariharan said that
there is a need to rewrite the stories related to women for their
positive portrayal.In this occasion the Chief Minister released
the hindi version of the Map 'Women in Distress: What to do,
Where to go?' (Mahilayon par Hinsa ho to kya karen aur kahan jayen?)
brought out by CSR with the support of UNIFEM.

27th of September, first session was organized on ‘HIV/AIDS and
other issues confronting adolescents’ and ‘Rights to
Property’. Ms Anjali Gopalan, CEO of Naz Foundation and Sadhana
Rawat from NACO and Ms Meenakshi Lekhi a prominent Lawyer of High
Court addressed the gathering. Ms. Gopalan stressed that the issue
of AIDS should be dealt with as a national crisis. Ms Rawat shared
the information on initiatives taken by NACO to cover adolescents
in HIV/AIDS progrmmes. The star attraction of the programme was
community theatre/play conducted by JAGRAN, an NGO working for the
last 35 years on different social issues. The theme of the play
was AIDS and trafficking. It had a deep impact on the gathering.

theme for the last day’s programme was ‘Political Empowerment
and Violence against women’. The chief guest for the day was Ms.
Mridula Sinha, a famous writer of Hindi Literature and currently
the Chairperson of Central Social Welfare Board. She opined that
literature could play a pivotal role in the empowerment of women.
Mr. Farooquee related the violence and its impact on society in a
very detailed and analytical way. Ms. Vasudha Digambar, Director
of MARG was also present on the occasion. Ms. Suman Krishnkant a
renowned social worker and President of Mahila Dakshata Samiti
highlighted the issue of insensitivity of hospital in dealing with
rape cases and other crimes against women.
