We are today living in an India where every hour, two rapes are committed, 1 woman is sexually harassed, 6 women suffer cruelty in the hands of their husbands and relatives and 1 woman is killed because of dowry demands. What is more disturbing is that amongst 35 mega cities, having a population of 10 lakhs or more, Delhi has topped the list in crime against women in the year 2003. Delhi has accounted for 30.5% of Rape cases, 35.0% of Kidnapping & Abduction cases, 18.8% of Dowry Deaths and 15.0% of Molestation cases among 35 cities.
Objectives for Crisis Intervention Centres (CICs)
- Developing and strengthening a network
of counselors and community leaders by
providing services to women and girl children
who are victims of violence.
- To make society aware about the women's
rights by organizing legal literacy and
awareness programs regarding social, economic,
political, legal and human rights of women.
- To mobilize community to take
initiative to stop anti-social activities like
harassment of women, alcohol related violence,
dowry harassment gambling etc. in their area.
- To strengthen the existing networks to
advocate prevention of violence against
women and to provide integrated services to the
victim of violence.
- To strengthen the existing women's
collective centers as a model to enhance
capacity of other community based organizations
to act as pressure groups within the community.
CSR's with the help of its counselling centers
have successfully handled hundreds of cases of
domestic violence, rape (minor and adult), dowry
demands, and sexual harassment over the years.
These centers are not only acknowledged by the
beneficiaries, the victims, their family members,
community elders, but also by the state and
national government and the media.
