National Seminar on Violence
Against Women
21 & 22nd February 2007
at WWF Auditorium, Lodhi Road, New Delhi
Violence
is committed against
women and girls, from cradle to grave, because
of their gender. Violence Against Women (VAW) is the most pervasive human
rights violation in the world today. It encompasses
a wide range of human rights violations, including
sexual abuse of children, rape, domestic violence,
sexual assault and harassment, trafficking of
women and girls and several harmful traditional
practices such as Sati and dowry-related
deaths.
Centre for Social Research wants
to generate awareness on issues related to violence
against women and girl children and therefore
wished to develop
an action plan and road map to eliminate violence
that women is facing from womb to tomb.
To address
this issue of violence against women, Centre
for Social Research, with the support of National
Commission for Women (NCW), organised a National Seminar
on Stop Violence from Womb to Tomb
in February of this year. Guests and speakers included Government officials,
academics, NGOs, international organisations, media and students.
For the seminar conclusions outcome please see
the event report.
