Issues
5th &
6th May 2006 at Ashoka Hotel, New Delhi
CSR in partnership with Women
Power Connect (WPC) organized a two-day National
Convention on Legislative Coordination for Action
on Women's Issues on 5th and 6th May 2006 in
New Delhi.
More than two hundred women
group leaders and activists from different parts
of the country took part in the convention to
discuss various issues relating to the social,
economic and political empowerment of women.
The main objective of the convention was to
take stock of the current position of women
in India, and to consult with the stakeholders
present, namely members of the government, academics
and women's groups, to arrive at a consensus
for an action plan on key issues affecting women's
empowerment. The most pertinent issues included
the proper implementation of the Domestic Violence
Act 2005, the demand for 33 percent reservation
for women in Parliament, the passage of the
Sexual Harassment Bill, Gender-Just Budgeting
and the problem of the declining child sex ratio
in the country.
