Addressing Extreme Poverty: "Gender Matters"
27th September 2007, New Delhi
The National Advocacy Workshop was jointly organized by the Poorest Area Civil Society (PACS) Programme and the Centre for Social Research (CSR) on 27th September 2007 at the Mirza Ghalib Conference Hall of SCOPE Complex, New Delhi. The workshop marks the culmination of the PACS project implemented by the CSR with specific objectives and activities to reach out to the 'poorest' among the "poorest of the poor" i.e. woman in India, on the varied indicators of health, education, livelihood, governance, etc. In its efforts towards addressing these concerns in the context of those facing extreme poverty, the Centre for Social Research (CSR) and its training division, the Gender Training Institute (GTI) has been working with the PACS Programme for the last four years. In its endeavor to build capacities at grass root levels, GTI started its two pronged project in October 2003 or working directly with the poorest women from the community and also engendering structures and processes of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand.
Guests and speakers included Government officials, academics, NGOs, international organisations,
