CSR INTERNS
INTERNSHIPS
Since
the beginning of the year 2000 the Centre for Social Research (CSR) has
opened its doors to interns. Since then nearly 20 interns from all over the
world have interacted with the staff from different departments and found
their niche in CSR. The interns were from countries like USA,UK,Denmark,
Canada, Finland, New Zealand, England, The Netherlands,Germany,
Austria to name a few. A number of times, CSR has had two to three interns
from different countries, this has not only helped in multicultural
interaction but also provided a broader perspective on issues affecting the
lives of people from different parts of the world. Besides this, CSR is
always delighted to welcome interns from its own country India, to give
young people the opportunity to participate and learn from real situations.
Interns
can work in any of the 6 departments of the organisation. They are:
1.
Development
2. Research
3. Gender Training Institute
4. Networking
5. Advocacy
6. Violence against women
Most
of the Interns come to CSR to work in any one of these departments. In
addition, CSR provides the interns a chance to come up with his/her own idea
or area of work interest and work on it while being with the organisation.
This can be related to subjects like marketing, public relations and IT.
All
interns are required to speak fluent English, but if one decides to work for
the development department it would be an added advantage if he/she has
working knowledge of Hindi. This is because most of the development projects
are located in rural areas of India and any interaction with the people is
possible only if one has working knowledge of Hindi. Beside this, it is
important that the intern is interested in the work that CSR does and would
not only learn from the organization but would also be able to provide
adequate support to the organisation in the form of write ups, new ideas,
take care of some tasks that may come up during their tenure with the
organisation.
The
duration of an internship can be from one month to a year but this depends
on the interest of the intern, the nature of the job and the vacancy in the
organisation.
The
interns at CSR are mostly students, who come to work here as part of their
education. The organisation welcomes even those who have graduated from
university and are interested in issues, which are of common interest to the
organisation or just wish to help the organisation with their skills and
knowledge.
At
present, there are two ways to apply for an internship at CSR. Firstly, one
can contact the worldwide working student organisation - AIESEC in one's own
home country or secondly, apply directly to the organisation.
The Centre for social Research is strongly interested in giving more interns
the possibility of working for the organisation, because it believes in a
better development of the organisation through a multicultural exchange.
