Background
Centre
for Women and Children Studies (CWCS)
is a non-profit and non-political organization
for encouraging, sponsoring and promoting
multi-disciplinary basic and action research.
This research aims to increase the socio-economic
development of women, men and children.
CWCS was established in April 1994 to
develop pro-women policy planning in Bangladesh
and ensure it is implemented in a more
meaningful way. It primarily acts as a
pressure group to lobby with the policy
planners and decision-makers. The vision
of CWCS is the inclusion of women in the
policy agenda to ensure equality in socio-economic,
legal and political spheres leading to
distributive justice.

Activities
of the Centre
Newsletter
The Centre publishes a newsletter,
COMBAT, exclusively on trafficking
in women and children. This is published
with a view to sensitise members
of the community and the law enforcing
agencies; particularly the police and
BD, so that they can realize the gravity
of the incidents and contribute effectively
to curb the inhuman slave trade against
women and children. The Centre also sends
newsletters to the network members at
grassroots, national, regional and international
levels; and to other relevant ministries,
national and international organizations
working on women and children.
Resource Centre
CWCS's Resource Centre has a collection
of publications and reports related to
various women and children issues. There
are also compilations of paper clippings
on various women and children issues,
with special emphasis on violence against
women, trafficking in women and children
from 1997 to date.
