Capacity Building workshop with Protection Officers and Service Providers for effective implementation of Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005

The Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 (PWDVA) was brought into force on October 26, 2006. In order to create a better understanding of the PWDVA and the related legal procedures among Protection Officers and Service Providers so as to ensure that the opportunities created by the PWDVA reach more and more victims of violence, Centre for Social Research (CSR) along with Socio Legal Aid Research and Training Centre (SLARTC) is organizing a Training of Trainers workshop from 24-26 June 2009 at Brahamananda Hall, Ramkrishna Mission, Kolkata, West Bengal.

The objectives of the training programme are:
  • To provide in-depth knowledge of the PWDVA in order to apply the law and also assess the implementation of the PWDVA
  • To identify what are the hurdles and what all can be done to make the systems work for women and make justice available to them
  • To suggest steps for better stakeholder coordination towards effective enforcement of the PWDVA
This is the first ToT workshop being organized in West Bengal and in the coming few months, similar such workshops will be organized in different parts of the country and to develop specific Action Plans. The concerns shared by the participants in all these workshops will be then culled out to create a National Lobbying Document to lobby for the effective implementation of this Act.
