IPC Section 498 A Used or Misused?

The report of the study conducted in the states of Delhi , Karnataka, Rajasthan and West Bengal analyses the prevalence, patterns and trends of domestic violence cases filed under section 498A. This study integrates the perceptions of different categories of people affected by 498A, i.e., the victims, the accused, relatives of both sides, police, NGOs, lawyers, judges and the community at large. The study clearly indicates that the legal and social realities are such that are more likely to discourage women from filing complaints on domestic violence rather than to promote misuse of Section 498A

Manual for Training Police on Anti Human Trafficking

This manual for training police on Anti Human Trafficking (AHT) is a part of the series of tools brought out by UNODC ROSA, in its anti-human trafficking project (IND/S16), which is being run in partnership with the Government of India (Ministry of Home Affairs) and state government agencies as well as civil society partners and is fully funded by the US government. This manual focusing on the needs of the police trainers has been supported by the UNODC, and prepared but the Gender Training Institute (GTI) of the Centre for Social Research (CSR), New Delhi. This manual finds its prime relevance in facilitating a change in perspective and attitude towards issues of human trafficking. The manual will prove useful for the police trainers who can in turn enable the police personnel to better appreciate the nuances of the unique interface found in police-victim/survivor interactions. The manual highlights that police, as the upholder of human rights, have to claim their rightful opportunity vis a via securing the trust and confidence of the victim/survivor. This casts a duty on police to prevent and combat human trafficking (HT). This manual empowers the police agencies in this direction. The training techniques suggested in the manual include a mix of case study analysis, group work, audio-visual aids such as film and theatre presentations and questionnaire.
