Among
all crimes related to girl and women rape has the
most deep rooted impact on the person who goes through
this traumatic experience. CSR as a nodal agency for
CIC Southwest District is providing support to the
victims as per the need assessed after intervention.
During this quarter we have received 17 such cases,
where we have able to provide support to the victims
and their family members.

Director,
CSR and the Counselling Staff along with the Children
Participants
To mark the
world day for Prevention of Child abuse, Chief
Coordinator CIC Mr. Sudhir K. Rai arranged for a programme
to raise the awareness and learnings to save themselves
from sexual abuse among girl children who are victims
of rape along with normal children through a story
telling session. Our Director introduced the special
guests for the occasion: Ms.Renee Jacob,Delhi Commission
for Women, Ms. Indira Mukherjee, Ms. Geetanjali Singh,
UNIFEM and Dr. Rajat Mitra, psychologist. Initially
the children were very conscious and hesitant in front
of new faces and reluctant to open up. Our Chief coordinator
with his natural expertise to relate to people helped
to break the ice. His description of his childhood
pranks that he used to indulge in simply bolded those
children and instantly they hurriedly started relating
their own stories.
Ms. Indira Mukherjee,
recount the story of a small child who she got acquainted
with through her involvement in a regular
sessions of story
telling. How oneday the girl found missing from her
class when later she found out on enquiry that the
child was sexually assaulted and traumatised to the
extent of not meeting the people who she adored and
loved, of which Indira happened to be one. Then Indira
made the children journey through those unknown but
plausible terrain, which can and awaits everybody
any time and how to boldly face and overcome the feeling
of guilt by eloquently narrating them on whom the
onus of such crime lies.
In
the programme renowned psychologist Dr. Rajat Mitra
explained in a very simple and practical ways, dos
and don'ts to avoid or save oneself from circumstances
of such abuse. The member of De hi Commission for
Women, Ms. Renee Jacob informed the children about
the Child helpline numbers through games. Songs drama
enacted by the children during the programme narrated
the subtle discrimination that these girls face verses
their own brothers. As programme progressed the children,
who were victims of sexual abuse started freely asking
certain question to clarify their mental anxiety and
contradiction arising out of their socialization and
social behaviour that they face. Picking the hidden
root of their anxiety, Dr. Mitra in his approachable,
warm and lucid manner clear their minds of the clouds
that for long had been troubling them subconsciously.
The programme
concluded with gifts and chocolates distributed to
these children with the generous donation from our
committed intern from UK, Ms.Rosalind Wilson, her
friend Suisie Lenton and our ex-colleague Dr.Madhumita
Sarkar.
